Custom Built-In Dresser/Armoire

This dresser/armoire was designed for a client with an empty space in a mid century modern country home. The client needed storage space and I designed a dresser armoire in solid white oak with a his/hers sides for clothing, pants, and sweater storage and a mixture of shelves and drawers to break up the clothing types. The white oak doors were created in a solid panel and then cut in half for continuous grain. Each set of drawer fronts is also from a single board for continuous grain left to right. The dresser is solid hardwood, the drawers run on solid hardwood runners, no screws to loosen up. The drawer fronts and door fronts have a slight chamfer (see detail image) to break up the flat surfaces. We selected brushed brass mid-century modern handles for the drawers and doors and simple brass bullet catches for the doors. I also installed LED lights under each of the drawer valances, these are switched on from a conventional light switch. Finished with 4 coats of hand rubbed varnish and a coat of paste wax. The size and placement of the drawers can be modified for each client.

This dresser is designed to hold clothing with drawers to break up the clothing types. The dresser is solid hardwood, the drawers and doors are on solid hardwood runners, no screws to loosen up. All four corners of the case have hand cut dovetails for strength and beauty. The legs have a gently taper within the base structure. The two top drawers are from a single piece of timber and doors are the same, so the grain runs across the casework. Finished with 4 coats of hand rubbed varnish and a coat of paste wax. The size and placement of the drawers can be modified for each client.

Jewelry case on stand

This jewelry case has interior drawers plus necklace pegs inside the doors. The door fronts are bookmatched from one board and the five drawers have continuous grain. Each drawer is solid wood on hardwood slides with pegged sides for strength. The top and bottom are 3/4″ wider on each side for a nice shadow line and use hidden brass knife hinges that open 185° for full access. The solid maple stand is decorative and raises the case to a comfortable height. Design inspired by James Krenov. Finished with four coats of hand rubbed varnish accentuate the grain. Drawer sizes and placement can be customized.

MID CENTURY MODERN DRESSER

The mid century modern dresser was a requested to match the style of the mid century modern sideboard. The dresser features waterfall design where the grain spans the left , top, and right sides for a continuous grain pattern. The design, as pictured here, has four drawers (6” and 9”), all solid wood with the fronts which have continuous grain top to bottom. The front edge is chamfered for a graceful transition to the drawer fronts and features hand crafted handles. The drawers run on solid wood rails. The legs are turned with a subtle taper. Finished with 4 coats of varnish with paste wax. The size and placement of the drawers can be modified for each client.

CABINET ON TAPERED LEGS

Cabinet with beautiful simple lines and flat paneled doors, can be used in an office, den or in living room. The cabinet has a chamfered edge top to soften the lines, the same chamfering is applied to the door panels, which also means that there is no place for dust to settle on in the doors, a nice side effect. Adjustable solid wood shelves are included. The legs are 5” high and tapered so that all the angled features work together cohesively. Shown in Maple 42” long, 29” high, and 16” wide. MAPLE CANTILEVERED DESK WITH ANGLED FRONT

Solid maple desk with cantilevered top to avoid having front legs in your way. Perfect for use as a home office or library desk. The base, legs and top are pegged with cherry dowels for an extremely strong joint. The top is 1” thick solid maple with a gentle chamfered top to give the top a lighter feel. The large drawer glides on wooden rails with full extension and an angled drawer front. The desk can be built to any custom dimensions required.
